African Wild Ass Basic Facts

The African Wild Ass (A.K.A African Wild Donkey) is a zebra-like mammal that lives in deserts. They mostly live in northeastern Africa and is a member of the horse family. Their scientific name is equus africanus. The African Wild Ass is about 2 m (6.6 ft) long and weighs from about 230-275 kg (510-610 lb). It mostly eats grasses, bark, and leaves. The wild ass's fur colour is a light shade of grey. Their voices can be heard from about 3 km (1.9 mi), which helps them communicate to other donkeys. The legs of some species of the African Wild Ass is stripped like a zebra.
