Accentor Basic Facts

Image result for who are the accentors related toThe accentor is a species of bird that has species of itself. The accentor's are part of the only bird family. The accentor's scientific name always starts with Prunella______, depending on the spieces. Here is a couple species of the accentor:
Alpine Accentor- Prunella Collaris, Brown Accentor- Prunella Fulvescens, Dunnock Accentor- Prunella Modularis, Japenese Accentor- Prunella Rubida, and Koslov Accentor- Prunella Koslowi. Accentor's live in mountainous places, like Asia and Europe. They eat seeds and fruit in the winter and eat insects in the summer. It is not related to sparrows but it is related to thrushes and warblers. It weighs 25- 35 g and is 14- 18 cm long. This bird has sharp bills to catch their food. Specific species of the accentor will live higher and some will live lower. For example, the Himalayan accentor, goes 17,000 ft in the air! But all accentor's hibernate on sea level.

Aardwolf Recap

The aardwolf is a hyena- like mammal that lives in eastern and southern Africa. It lives in shrublands and bushlands. The word "aardwolf" means "earth wolf" in Afrikaans and Dutch. It is also called "maanhaar jackal" in Afrikaans and in English it's "mane jackal". One final name is the civet hyena. Aardwolves are in the same family as the hyena's. It eats insects, mostly termites and can eat up to 250,000 in one night. It's fur is a yellowish colour and has black vertical stripes. It is 55-80 cm (22-31 in) long without it's tail. The tail is about 20-30 cm (7.9-11.8 in) long. It weighs about 7-10 kg (15-22 lbs). Southern aardwolves are smaller than eastern aardwolves. This mammal avoids mountain ranges and lives where termites are produced.

Aardwolf Basic Facts

The aardwolf is a hyena- like mammal that lives in eastern Africa, central Africa, and southern Africa in shrublands and bushlands. It eats insects, mostly termites, and consumes 250, 000 termites a night. It is nocturnal and it's scientific name is proteles cristata. The word "aardwolf" means "earth wolf" in Afrikaans and Dutch. Another name for it is "maanhaar jackal" which is "mane jackal" in Afrikaans. One final name for the aardwolf is civet hyena. This mammal has yellowish fur and black stripes all over it's body. It is 55- 80 cm (22- 31 in) long without it's tail and it's tail is 20- 30 cm (3.9- 11.8 in) long. Southern aardwolves tend to weigh less and be smaller in size. Eastern aardwolves weigh  about 14 kg (22lbs), while southern aardwolves weigh about 10 kg (31 lbs). The aardwolf does not live near mountains because they need to live close to their food. Eastern aardwolves eat T. bettonianus termites, central aardwolves eat T. rhodesiensis termites, and southern aardwolves eat T. trinervoides termites.
